Sooner or later this was expected, it was a 3 decades old AC that took more than a decade to refurbish, it had a boiler problem when it was mothballed and a honey trap deal brought it to indian shores under shroud which took a decade and has been in service for 2 decades under IN, it has outlived it’s total life and time to be sent to scrap yard.

The picture you used is MISLEADING! That smoke is NOT from the accidental fire, it is just the result of the innefficient boiler which powers it's engines. That's what the carrier looks like when it is not on fire. When a ship fire breaks out, there is slightly less smoke.

What did they do in refit,after months of maintenance & exorbitant costs,if they couldn't make it fit for service then what were they charging for???
Time has come to build another STOBAR carrier along with two CATOBAR carriers soon.
The STOBAR carrier should be bit bigger than INS Vikrant with same designs with 48000 tonnes displacement,so that it could support a fleet of 32/36 Rafale M/FA 18 Super Hornet Block 3,4 AW101 Crowsnest AEW,4 MH60R/SH60R/NH90 ASW & 4 NUH.
But this time with much bigger lifts to support all fighters.
The CATOBAR carriers to have a Displacement of 50000-52000 tonnes with Conventional propulsion & Steam Catapults for Assisted Takeoffs,as EMALS systems is very expensive & reserved for exclusive allies of US.
Now,coming to BEL EMALS which now fanboys will be shouting is just a speculation,which is nothing more than a hoax,just to grab more funds & sit idle for several decades to come.
The new CATOBAR carriers of 52000 tonnes should support a fleet of 36 Naval Fighters,2 E2D Hawkeye,4 ASW Helicopters,2 NUH,4 STOL UCAV.
All these to be built within 2036-38,by 2030-32 the new STOBAR carrier to get operational & replace INS Vikramaditya,else it is inviting some major mishaps.
By 2040,we should have a fleet of 4 Aircraft Carriers(2 STOBAR & 2 CATOBAR)
Along with these support fleet for carrier operations consisting of:
8 Destroyers
8 Frigates
8 ASUW Corvettes & 4 ASW Corvettes
8 FAC
4 SSK & 4 SSN
4 Minesweepers
Airwing Consists of:
140 Naval Fighters,16 ASW Helicopters,8 NUH,8 AEW Helicopters,6 AEW Aircrafts,12 STOL UCAV & land based MPA,AWACS for it's support.
Indian Navy also needs a fleet of :
4 Juan Carlos/Trieste/Izumo/Dokdo/Wasp/Project 23900 Class ships.
6 Enlarged Makassar Class LPD with 15000 tonnes displacement to replace INS Jalashwa & build fleet strength,whose price hovers around 150-175 million dollars per unit for export along with complete package.
