Thought that XPeng was the only brand offering city and highway autonomous technology? Well now AVATR are in town boasting a triple lidar set-up powered by Huawei Inside and it is quite a system. We put it to the test on the streets and highways of Shanghai to see just how good it is in practice, and then took it to a car park to show off its autonomous parking in practice.

Huawei's ADAS and autoparking is a little ahead of XPeng's, though XPeng is able to autopark across multiple stories. Both promised to drop HD Maps and release City ADAS to dozens of cities by the end of this year. Even their voice assistants are supremely impressive, though I think XPeng edges Huawei in this area. They appear to be in a different class from the rest as far as production vehicles are concerned.

Big W to any country that gets FSD programs to cooperate on one grid. Any fsd avoiding this should be only allowed for off-road or military or EMS

This is incredible. I have a Tesla with FSD. It's garbage. Will never ever reach L3 let alone L5. I was considering an upgrade to a Model X because the price came down and for Sept we supposedly can transfer FSD as a one time benefit. I was so tempted to pull the trigger. But after carefully considering the factors I figured FSD is a waste anyway so big deal if I can transfer it. What good is FSD if it can't even do basic things. So I decided to hold off and get a rivian dual motor instead.

About the circumstance when people have to regularly touch the steering wheel when the car signals a warning: I wonder how the car responds if somebody doesn't touch the wheel? I mean, it has to keep driving anyways, it can't just stop in the middle of a 100kph highway.

Nice video, I think the reason made part of auto drive fail is the other drivers, not the system so far. If you access the car with a navigation on Huawei Harmony phone, it will automatically switch to the car navigation system. If you can show this in your video, it may be more impressive.

Due to the law, the car will check whether the driver is still there every 30s. If the driver is not there, the car will show warnings 3 times, and then slow and stop on the road.

As much as I love electric cars and look forward to getting one, I still want to be the driver, not a passenger in a self-drive. If I want relaxing travel I'll take the train and hire at the other end. For me, being a passenger in a traffic jam is slightly more miserable than being a driver in a traffic jam.

Paid actors in the comments aside, this is an impressive showing. Those familiar with FSD Beta roadblocks (especially from regulatory POV) will immediately notice the logic issues with how the vehicle handled the construction crew. This unpolished behavior continues throughout the demo, with the vehicle making fairly reckless pathing decisions. The most telling was the segment with indistinguishable lane markings. Huawei is relying far too much on pre-generated road scans for decision making versus a polished real-time model.

It is better to demonstrate reverse parking with both sides have cars parked. This demonstrates the car crossing the line of the other side parking space when reversing.

Tesla put out a video 5 years ago that’s still on YouTube “Full Self Driving” that shows their system driving perfectly autonomously through streets turns traffic lights and intersections with zero driver aid.
The issue are the laws and regulations in every state, in the US unfortunately, that prevents Tesla from fully releasing to the public. I’ve owned a Tesla for 5 years and they only give tiny updates and features very slowly to Full Self Driving which is a bummer.
This car looks really nice though, I like it

Maybe it's because you don't understand Chinese, so you don't know what happened in the end. Before the final left turn, you pressed the left turn signal, which caused the car to exit NCA and enter ACC mode. In ACC mode, the car will not look at the navigation route, but will keep driving forward and change lanes when you use the turn signal. If you had paid attention to the screen at that time, you would have noticed that the blue lines disappeared.

Dangerous letting car handle driving past construction workers. They may be expecting there is a driver handling the car who would stop if there is not enough room to drive by, that is something what AI might not be able to do

So, from the title, how exactly can FSD not do this? Because in its current version, it can do quite a bit more than this. You can only use the LIDAR system on previously mapped roads and highways. FSD works anywhere in all locations across the entire US. You've also had to keep putting your hands on the wheel multiple times, which you do not need to do on FSD, and that's something that should not be required for lvl 3, so is it actually lvl 3 then? It also didn't slow down enough while driving between 2 workers on the road for my liking. Like at 4:50 was awful. I would suggest looking at some recent FSD videos, its miles ahead of this. FYI, I'm from Europe, so no bias towards FSD as I can't even get it myself.

This is basically like Wamo/Cruise it works fine in a mapped location but its starts going wonky when it has no prior info. To be fair, still way better than GM/Ford ping-ponging crap.

In your answers to comments, I see that you make the argument about Tesla's FSD is not available in China. This is not really a fair argument because Chinese brands like Xpeng and Nio don't have fully autonomous technnology available in the US. Unlike Tesla these companies don't even have access to any meaningful number of locations. For the most part they only have access to some select major Chinese cities and not even full access. Telsa's FSD is available on a whole continent. There are rumors that FSD is coming to China next year. It would be interesting point of comparison if it is true
