I really greatly respect Vietnam and the Vietnamese people. They have the courage and wisdom to choose the right path. The Vietnamese are proud of being Asians and are able to make decisions eg politically, economically, socially, culturally, ideologically, etc independent of the American and western control. The Japanese have a lot to learn from the Vietnamese. Japan being one of the richest and most developed country is still no better than a lapping dog to the America and the west. Japan looks like it is only a vassal state of the US. What a disgrace to our Eastern Asian race, now is already 21st century.

我非常尊重越南和越南人民。他们有勇气和智慧选择正确的道路。越南人以身为亚洲人为荣，他们能够在政治，经济，社会，文化和意识形态等方面做出自己的决定，他们不受美国和西方的控制。日本人需要多多向越南人学习。日本虽然是世界上最富裕，最发达的国家之一，但对于美国和西方来说，日本只不过是一条哈巴狗而已。日本似乎只是美国的附属国而已，这是我们东亚民族的巨大耻辱，要知道现在已经是21世纪了。

Who's to say that Japanese don't want to be independent? The thing is, they lost WW2, and the winner forced on them unfair treaties. Vietnam on the other hand, won a war against the US, so they get to choose their own destiny.

@Khải Hoàng WW2 until now is almost 80 years already. If Japan, after 80 years still can't fight for themselves to be independent, then they only have themselves to be blamed.

@Khải Hoàng Vietnam did win the war and then became independent of US. The Vietnamese had been fighting with their blood and soul for many years to become independent of US. So every country has to fight for its owned independence. But the Japanese just submitted to the US control after WW2 until now and pethaps may continue indefinitely unless they seek the help of the Chinese.

I think China values Vietnam friendship very much as both are still communist/socialist states. Both have made great efforts to repel the American hegemony on their soil.

@Gun Sum Wong It was a mistake for China to support them during their war with the US. China could have sat back and watched the US and them struggle against each other but it didn't and Vietnam claimed China funded and supported the khmer rouge and then helped them get into power by launching a insurgency in Cambodia. China was not thinking ahead that they(Vietnam) could become a adversary

对于中国来说，在越南战争时期帮助越南就是一个错误。中国本可以袖手旁观，坐看美越两国相互争斗，但中国没有这样做。越南后来声称中国资助和支持红色高棉，并通过在柬埔寨发动叛乱帮助他们掌权。中国没有提前想到越南会成为他们的敌人。

@Alex Zhang--- The PRC help to Vietnam is for the same main reason the PRC help to Korea: To prevent complete encirclement of China by the Imperial West. Unifying with TaIwan will further remove more of the shackles of the West and allow China to break through the first island chain more easily...but China still has Japan and South Korea blocking some of East China Sea access. By having helped Vietnam fight off the West, China now has much better access to the South China sea than if the US is to occupy Vietnam.
